BOTANICALS

The details

These pieces were made with celadon-glazed and unglazed white porcelain, or unglazed black mason-stained porcelain fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln and mounted in wooden shadow boxes, or displayed in glass curio boxes.

NATURalist-inspired PORCELAIN ART

This collection was loosely based on the old botanical drawings and illustrations of the 19th century. It must have been an amazing time to live and know that so much of the natural world had yet to be discovered and documented. Sometimes I daydream about being alive back then just to experience the anticipation and excitement of previously unknown plants and flowers emerging, and new artwork being created to depict the beauty of botany around the world.
